You left your plans at home, right? Then you're all set.

Hi there!
I'm Dokko, your guide at Amudena.
I'm actually a burr seed, the kind that hitches a ride on passersby's clothes and travels.
This time, I'm sticking to you!
“Amudena” is Korean for “anywhere.” Wherever the wheel lands, that’s where you’re going.

Just four promises before we go!

Stay 1Eat 1Café 1See 1 Stay 1, Eat 3, Café 1, See 2...
calling things by number is handy.
Like "Call Stay 3!"

I'll tell you just a little of what I know.
South of Hallasan, this city takes up the whole lower half of Jeju Island.
Seongsan Ilchulbong at the eastern tip, Sanbangsan in the west, and in the middle of town, waterfalls drop into the sea.
The Seogwipo Chilsimni Festival is in autumn and the Canola Flower Festival in spring. There are three 5-day markets too!

💡TIP! Dates change every year. Quietly check with 1330 before you go.

I only picked places with phone numbers.
Whether there's a free room...
you'll have to call to find out!
💡TIP! Addresses are kept in Korean so you can show them to locals.
A pension in Saekdal-dong, Jungmun. From 15 to 40 pyeong, pick by group size.
A pension in Seongsan-eup. They say there's a 17-pyeong suite and an 8-pyeong twin room too.
Just like the name ("Lying by the Sea"), it's right on the Wimi coastal road. Check-in is a bit early, at 2 p.m.
Tucked in off Seoseongil-ro in Seongsan-eup. Ask about rooms by phone.
A big hotel in the Jungmun Resort area. They say there are character rooms too!
A seaside hotel in Pyoseon. They say every room is suite-class.
A hotel on Yerae Coastal Road. There are family suites too.
A resort in Hogeun-dong, Seogwipo. They say it even has residence rooms.

I can't tell if they're famous, either.
Just remember one signature dish and go!
I also put in two cafés for a cup of tea!
A black-pork bulgogi place in the Pyoseon uplands. They have mugwort pancakes too. Closes at 3 p.m.
A big black-pork tonkatsu place in Beophwan. There's a spicy version too. Closed Thursdays.
A Chinese-Korean restaurant by Hamo Port in Daejeong. Red seafood jjamppong is the signature. Open year-round.
A braised cutlassfish place on Ilchul-ro, Seongsan. Grilled tilefish too. Closes at 5 p.m.
An abalone hot-pot place in downtown Seogwipo. Opens at 8 a.m., open year-round.
A restaurant by the sea in Sagye. They say there's Sanbangsan volcano pasta and tangerine pizza too.
An assorted raw fish place by Hamo Port. Damselfish barley rice too. Closed Mondays.
A pork-noodle soup place in Daepo-dong. Sea snail & bracken kalguksu too. From 8 a.m.!
A café at the foot of Sanbangsan. The signature is the Sanbangsan cake! Open year-round.
A café on Choenamdan Coastal Road in Daejeong. They say there's Gapado green-barley misugaru too.

I picked just 8 spots.
We'll meet the rest on the road.

A peak rising out of the sea. In summer it opens at 4:30 a.m. Closed the 1st Monday of each month.

An old Jeju village that's still standing as it was. Open whenever you go.

A deep gorge where fresh water meets the sea. Open whenever you go.

A waterfall that drops straight into the sea. Until 5:30 p.m., open year-round.

A waterfall close to downtown. Open until 10 p.m., so it's good for an evening walk too.

An art museum in the neighborhood where painter Lee Jung-seob lived. Closed Mondays.

Cliffs of stone columns on the Jungmun shore. Until 5:30 p.m., open year-round.

A bell-shaped mountain standing tall over the fields. Last entry changes with sunset time.

Markets are the best way to see a town.
Days ending in 5 or 10 are Seogwipo, 1 or 6 are Daejeong, 3 or 8 are Jungmun!
💡TIP! There may be markets not listed here. Ask a local, "여기 장 언제 서요? (yeo-gi jang eon-je seo-yo?)"

The answers aren't in this book.
The locals know the real ones.
💡TIP! Show the Korean sentence as is, or read it out loud.

Keep money talk tidy!
