You left your plans at home, right? Then you're all set.

Hi there!
I'm Dokko, your guide at Amudena.
I'm actually a burr seed, the kind that hitches a ride on passersby's clothes and travels.
This time, I'm sticking to you!
“Amudena” is Korean for “anywhere.” Wherever the wheel lands, that’s where you’re going.

Just four promises before we go!

Stay 1Eat 1Café 1See 1 Stay 1, Eat 3, Café 1, See 2...
calling things by number is handy.
Like "Call Stay 3!"

I'll tell you just a little of what I know.
This is Jeonju, the heart of North Jeolla. It's famous for the Hanok Village packed with tiled roofs!
Bibimbap, kongnamul-gukbap, and gamaek too. It's well known as a city of food.
Hanji paper, pansori, films: it's a town overflowing with culture, too.

💡TIP! Dates change every year. Quietly check with 1330 before you go.

I only picked places with phone numbers.
Whether there's a free room...
you'll have to call to find out!
💡TIP! Addresses are kept in Korean so you can show them to locals.
A hotel in Pungnam-dong, Wansan-gu. Check-in is at 3 p.m.!
On Choi Myeong-hui-gil, Pungnam-dong, Wansan-gu. The room names include Wol, Hwa, and Su (Mon, Tue, Wed).
In Daesong-dong, Wansan-gu, you can use a whole private hanok.
In Dongseohak-dong, Wansan-gu, next to Jeonjucheon Stream. They say some rooms have a terrace!
A hanok on Omokdae-gil in Gyo-dong. There are Modu, Sarang, and Gippeum rooms.
In Seonosong-dong, Wansan-gu. They say there are Standard Double, Twin, and Triple rooms.
On Chunhyang-ro, Wansan-gu. The name sounds like a hanok, but the rooms are Western-style!
On Hyanggyo-gil in Gyo-dong. They say there are jacuzzi, garden, and guesthouse rooms.

I can't tell if they're famous, either.
Just remember one signature dish and go!
I also put in two cafés for a cup of tea!
Near Gaeksa in Gosa-dong. Kimchi-jjim is the signature, and it's closed Mon and Tue.
A Jeonju bibimbap place in the Jeolla Gamyeong alley. Closed Mondays.
Old-style cauldron yukhoe bibimbap is the signature. Open year-round, so reassuring, right?
Dwaeji-bulgogi is the signature. Opens at 5 p.m., and closed the first and third Sundays.
A sundae-gukbap place right near Pungnammun Gate. Opens at 6 a.m.!
Nambu Market-style kongnamul-gukbap is the signature. They say it's open 24 hours!
Dwaeji-mul-galbi is the signature. Open year-round, so forget about days of the week.
A rice restaurant on Gyeonggijeon-gil. Taejo Bapsang is the signature, and they have tteok-galbi too. Closed Mondays.
A café on the way to Jeondong Cathedral. Cheongsachorong ade is the signature!
A café on Hanjeol-gil in Hyoja-dong. They say the Orchard croissant is the signature.

I picked just 8 spots.
We'll meet the rest on the road.

The face of Jeonju, with tiled-roof houses going on forever. Walk it slowly!

An old church with eye-catching red bricks. It's right next to Hanok Village.

The place that enshrines the royal portraits of Joseon. The big garden is great for walking too.

The old south gate of Jeonju Fortress. A perfect spot before heading to the market!

The site of the old office that governed Jeolla Province. Full of Joseon-era administration stories.

A park in the city with lotus flowers and a pond. Nice for a stroll.

A museum where you meet the history and culture of North Jeolla in one place.

An old factory reborn as an art space. A different charm from Hanok Village!

Jeonju Jungang Sangga, Jeonju Nambu Market, and Moraenae Market are all open every day.
No need to worry about market days, go anytime!
💡TIP! There may be markets not listed here. Ask a local, "여기 장 언제 서요? (yeo-gi jang eon-je seo-yo?)"

The answers aren't in this book.
The locals know the real ones.
💡TIP! Show the Korean sentence as is, or read it out loud.

Keep money talk tidy!
